The awesome man

Faarah was born in 1954, in Oodwayne.  His mother had died when he was two years old. He lived only with his father and his younger sister called Aamina. He grew up in difficult life of no mother; nevertheless, he spent most of his time with his father, who was very entertaining for him. When he was eight years old, he went to his grandmother, who was living in Burco.  His grandmother liked education a lot, so, she took him into Quranic School.  From there he started his new field of education.
Faarah made his grandmother very happy when he became the best student in the Quranic School. His grandmother could not believe the success that he has done for the first year. She asked her son, Ali, to let Jaamac be with her, and he accepted that request. She then decided to enroll him the public school. For his grandmother it was a little bit difficult to pay for his school, but she believed that Faarah was very clever and could not miss learning.  So she decided to take him to the school. She begged the principle to let Faarah learn for free. After a long discussion, they reached a compromise of paying once in two months. Faarah was much younger than all the other students were, but did his brain. He successfully finished the first year and he got the highest grade. He attracted the teachers’ attention. In turn they let him learn for free. He got a reward of huge bag full of books and pens, which was his ultimate weapon for the next year.Faarah’s interest of education combined with his grandmother’s encouragement pushed him even to study harder and continue his learning.
The grandmother was really amazed with his success. She cares about him, and encourages him to continue his dedicating. She was really the only person, who cares about education, where all other members of the family did not like it that much. Faarah’s grandmother had died the first year of his high school. Faarah felt great regret for her death, but he could remember her words of encouragement, so he decided to continue his dedicating. After four years of working hard, he finished his high school and got one of the highest scores. One of the greatest universities in the south Somalia gave him scholarship. This university was called The Faculty of the Agriculture, and he studied and majored in agriculture. He chose this subject because at that time it was prosperous time of Somalia under the Siyad Barre’s government, and the farming was the mainstay of the economy. When he finished his university he succeeded to get three years of mastering in Philippine. Faarah  finished his mastering in Agriculture, and was really happy to come back to his country and use his knowledge. He came back to home in 1989, and he was ready to start his working in Moqdisho. Unfortunately, after few months of working, the civil war between the South and North Somalia had begun. He then fled to Hargeisa which was completely destroyed by the southern armies. He could not find any job in Hargeisa, so after few months of hard life, he moved to Ethiopia, where he fortunately found a job. He was there few years, and he finally came back to Hargeisa in 1999. From that day to now, he has been working for an agency called DRC, and at this moment he lives in Hargeisa with his six children in a very satisfied life.

Somaliland election

In order a government to be democratic, it needs to fulfill some basic requirements. It should contain collective representatives that came into power through fair elections. It should have defined time of regime. Its citizens should have the right to participate equally through representatives or directly in making the laws of their lives and they should have freedom of political expression, freedom of speech and freedom of the press.  Somaliland government has tried to fulfill all these requirements and succeeded fulfilling most of them. However, it failed to hold its elections properly.
Most of the Somaliland citizens had faced huge difficulties in voting the last election. Despite the fact that Somaliland is an unrecognized country which has tried and almost succeeded to hold fair elections, there have been some corruptions in the last election.  The system of marking the people who voted was not effective and could be easily deviated.  As a result, many irresponsible people washed the marks their fingers off and voted more than their fair time. This corruption brought about many problems.  When the people who had voted went back into the line repeatedly, the areas of voting became overwhelmingly crowded; in return these areas became instable and even the guards started firing when people squashed into the entrance. Furthermore, many eligible citizens did not get an opportunity to vote because the voting areas were over crowded or run out of voting papers. Consequently, this damaged the rights of those citizens, and the reputation of Somaliland.
There were also people who did not vote because they did not care about the election or had no idea who to vote for. In democratic governments citizens play big role in the politics. They give power or enable the government through elections. When they are electing their representatives they deeply scrutinize the candidates. They listen the plans of candidates. They then compare their proposals of the candidates and finally vote for the one who most speaks to their interests. In Somaliland, this is different, clans and money play big role in the elections. Citizens choose their leaders in terms of his clan or his pocket, and whoever has the most of one of those ones gains the power. This caused many eligible citizens included me to not participate in elections. Moreover, this caused unsuitable, corrupt candidates to come into power, and furthermore, made the candidates look like businessmen who are competing for manipulating the market.
Somaliland has overcome most of the hardships that it faced since it seceded from Somalia, which is still in chaotic situation. Somaliland succeeded abolishing the militias that existed during 1990s, maintaining its security and providing the basic services, like education, for its citizens. However, it had one barrier to get through in order to pursue its rapid developing, to end tribalism and hold fair elections.

Avoiding devastating waves

Avoiding devastating waves
The world has become small and interconnected place due to the advancement in the communication. Especially the internet has brought all nations together, and allowed them to share their emotions and ideas. However, the internet became the source of spreading some garbage ideas that can shake the stability of the world, so it should be censored in limited manner to only benefit from it and avoid its potential destructions.
The internet has become a threat to the stability of the world. Throughout history, Arab spring was the greatest revolution in this century. Most of the countries in which these revolutions had taken place were completely devastated and experienced a very chaotic and frenzied situation. The situation of those countries got out of control; all people violated the local rules, protested violently and even fought against the government’s forces. For example, Syria is one of the countries that still enduring the negative effects off Arab spring. Before its revolution, Syria was a serene country that has control over its people. But in few months it changed into hostile place, in which war is interminably going on. All these destructions, deaths and hostilities were triggered by internet. The Arab spring had first begun in Tunisia, then, as the wind waves, spread to most of Arab countries through internet. Just like that, the internet can harm the stability of the world, so it is better to just prevent the wrong ideas from devastating our lives.
Even though the internet interconnected all the nations from different places of the world, it became the source of evil.  Just before few months, a bunch of idiots had caused distrust among some of the most popular countries. They made bad films about Islam, which triggered massive riots in the most Islamic countries. These riots left many destructions and deaths. Some of the embassies in those countries were destroyed, and even four Americans, including ambassador Stevens, were killed in Libya. More over this terrible incident left behind friction among most of the European and Islamic countries, but did not abolish the bonds among them. This terrible movie was from only bunch of people, but risked to cause conflicts among the nations. So, it is better to control such that ideas from spreading before they provoke conflicts among the nations.
Ultimately the best way to tackle the potential problems that internet can provoke is to make international laws concerning internet usage. The world organizations such as ITU should set global and fair rules to prevent the abuses and wrong ideas from spreading. Then start to monitor that these rules are fully applied by all countries. Through this process, every country should be responsible what it is going out and in of their countries. As a result all people will continue transmitting their knowledge, feelings and ideas through internet, and pejorative ideas will be blocked.
